| Sleeping in the car with his octopus sidekick. |
We got on the road again the next day and made our way to Dallas. Oklahoma is not the world's most interesting location, so this leg seemed very long. We got to Dallas around 9pm and were greeted by Barb, Karin and Steve. Tony was so excited to stretch his legs. He was also very excited to see Steve, who he thought was hilarious! As we all know, Tony generally doesn't like men (probably because he likes to keep all the ladies' attention to himself), but for whatever reason Steve passed the test. Of course Karin and Barb were ok in Tony's book.
The next day we went to the Dallas Aquarium and the Nasher Sculpture Center. Such fun places! Tony was still pretty tired from the trip but Anthony and I loved it! We also went to Ponder, TX, to dinner at the Ranchmen's Cafe. This has become a family tradition. We made sure to order our baked potatoes in advance.
We also got to see Sam's new house that he renovated, where Little Tony met Milo. It was love at first sight. One thing's for sure - Tony wants a dog. Unfortunately, Milo was a bit skittish around such a little person. We also went to the new Perot Museum of Natural Science and the Dallas Arboretum to see the Chihuly exhibit. To me, this was the highlight of the trip. Stunning and beautiful.
Anthony, Tony and I also went to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Highly recommend to anyone in the area! It was super cool, and very Texas. We got to see the tail end (no pun intended) of the longhorn cattle drive. We also got Tony his very own Texas Ranger badge, cowboy hat, and cowboy boots! I can't wait to see him clomp around in them. Following the Stockyards, we met up with Anthony's cousin Shannon for a bit. We walked and talked around Dealey Plaza. I was right in my element there. It was pretty chilly out, so we didn't stay long, but it was fun to see her and have her meet the Young Tony!
For New Year's, Barb, Steve, Anthony, Tony and I went to Lake Texoma to the new boat: What A Day. It's a gorgeous boat. We spent our time just relaxing, playing Farkle (Steve got 3 pairs, 3 times in a row! I don't know how that is statistically possible!), and watching movies. We also had s'moritas. This was new to Anthony and me, but something that we will definitely continue to do in Minnesota. They were s'mores in a tortilla. Try it. You won't regret it. We all barely saw the ball drop, as we were pretty tired. Also, all of us were sick! It just figures.

| Starting off the new year right with bacon! |
New Year's Day we made our way back to Dallas, and I began to mentally prepare for Tony's first plane ride. I packed, re-packed, and Anthony re-packed again. We got to the airport the next day and I felt prepared. I ran through how all this was going to go in my mind about 50 times. While we waited in line to start boarding the pilots talked to us. Luckily, one pilot has 3 kids and totally understood what it was like to fly with a little one. He said if there were any problems he would take Tony to the cockpit with him. Clearly, the pilot's children are now older and he's forgotten how fast 10-month old hands grab everything in sight and love to push buttons. I had the bottle prepared for take-off, just in case Tony's tiny ears hurt from the pressure change. When the early boarding call was made for those "who need extra time" (we qualified for sure), I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that we were upgraded to First Class! YES! I told Tony to not get too used to it. Not a bad way to go on your first plane ride. Friendly skies indeed. Tony pitched a total fit for about 5 minutes after take-off, then promptly fell asleep after his bottle. He slept the entire flight and got his wings as we de-boarded. It was not the nightmare I imagined - THANK GOD.
Now, Tony and I are back to our old routine. First family "vacation" - check!
