Since 6 months is a major milestone in baby years, we had to celebrate! First stop - the Minnesota State Fair. Tony got together with about 150,000 other fair-goers at The Great Minnesota Get-Together. For the record: I LOVE THE FAIR. I was super excited to introduce him to everything the fair has to offer. Next year will be much more fun when he actually can do stuff. At this point he just looked confused, which made him fall asleep. He did get to see his first pony!
Saturday was another big day! We went to Austin to visit Great Grandma and Grandpa. Anthony had never been there before so he got to see the famous Spamtown, USA for himself. We went to Our Savior's Lutheran Church first, the church Great Grandpa started. Then lunch at the Pizza Ranch. Finally, it was time for what Anthony was waiting patiently to do...The SPAM Museum! Now, I have been a few times and knew what to expect, but the was a first for Tony the Elder. I didn't clue him into anything. He had no expectations. When we arrived his jaw dropped. This isn't a corn palace-style roadside attraction or a carnival sideshow; this is a legitimate, well-run, fully-interactive museum. Anthony was shocked, and said it was "more impressive than he imagined" and we "undersold it for how cool it actually was." Though he liked the museum, it was not enough to make him like SPAM. The most important part of the museum? The gift shop. The Pledgeworth Clan walked away with three blindingly bright yellow matching SPAM shirts. Which brings us to Sunday.
Little Tony's actual 1/2 birthday was spent in his father's favorite place - the Renaissance Festival! RenFest is to Anthony what the state fair is to me. And, what better place to wear our fabulous yellow shirts?! Yes, folks, we did. All three of us. In matching yellow SPAM shirts. It was a show of unity for sure. Not surprisingly, we were not the most oddly dressed family there (yes, there was a family in fur bikinis - parents and two tweenage kids). Anthony got his turkey leg and Tony got a wooden sword and puzzle!
The whole weekend exhausted the little guy.
We wouldn't have it any other way.
