The Hazards of Being a New Walker

Tony has had quite a week at daycare. Twice this week the daycare's phone number has popped up on my caller ID. That's NEVER good. The first time it was Sonja. What's great about her is that she leads with "Hi Emily, Tony is ok and we are not sending him home." Then she goes on to describe the problem. The problem this time: Tony took a header into the heat register and gave himself a goose egg and cut on his forehead. Apparently, he only cried for about 20 seconds or so. Ok, no problem. We can deal with that.

Call #2 was not as good. I was in a meeting and Jodi called. She left a message "Tony needs medical attention. I'm hoping you get this soon because he needs to be picked up. He fell and cut open his lip. He will probably need stitches." Needless to say, I flew out the door. I almost didn't remember my purse, coat, keys... I was ready to start running to the daycare. While on my way I made the appropriate phone calls and tried to not get in an accident. I didn't see Tony when I got there, but there were 4 teachers standing around talking. They all stopped and turned to me when I walked through the door. Also never a good sign. They told me he was in the back with Jodi. I went back there and he was sitting on her lip with a washcloth to his face. She pulled it away and there was blood everywhere. Tony tripped while going into a tent. He put his top teeth through his bottom lip. Jodi said he only cried for about 30 seconds this time, too! What a little tough guy. It was bad. We went to the clinic to see Grandpa Dan. He took a look and didn't think Tony needed stitches, luckily. He should heal soon and without problem. The pictures actually don't do the injury justice. It's worse than this.

Tony and I stayed home today. He has a hard time sleeping because he rubs his face on the mattress. He has a hard time eating because he's got an inch-long gaping cut inside his mouth. He's very sad and clearly in pain. Here's to hoping that we've been through the worst of it for a while and Little Tony gets some better balance soon!
