On your mark, get set...

So, here we go. My very first blog post. Ever. No time like the present, right? Today seemed like an appropriate day. Today is the 7-month mark. SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT!!! Third trimester. Baby Boy will be here in 3 short months! There's a wake-up call for ya. I have no idea where the time went. In some ways it's great that time is flying by; in other ways, please slow down we are not ready yet. Regardless, we are very excited to welcome Baby Boy into the world!

Today I had an OB appointment. The 1-hour glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. The "juice" tasted like a melted orange popsicle. Not as bad as I thought it would. After an hour of waiting, the lab tech drew my blood and said she would come back with whether I passed or failed. I didn't realize that this was a pass/fail exam. It just seemed like a weird way to say it. The results... PASS! No gestational diabetes here. When she told me the results I said, "He's already an over-achiever." No laugh. Just a blank stare. I guess I'm not as clever as I thought I was. Oh well. I celebrated by having a hot chocolate. Other stats from the day:
  • Heartbeat: 125. It took a few tries to get it because we couldn't find him for more than a couple seconds. He likes to hide in the back away from the machines. This has been a problem in the past; hence, the 2 tries to find out his gender. Our doctor, Dr. Maria Vu, said, "Man, he's a little swimmer, isn't he?"
  • Weight: about 2 3/4 lbs.
  • Length: about 14.8 in.
  • My heartbeat: calm, cool, and collected.
  • My weight: Uff da (for the non-Norwegians/Minnesotans out there, please see: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=uff%20da for an explanation). I keep reminding myself - you're growing a baby. Sometimes that works, sometimes I need to breathe into a paper bag.
Dr. Vu also talked to me about precautions, next stages, and LABOR! WHAT??!! You mean I could go into labor? Like now? Apparently so, but we're not thinking about that. Denial is a great skill to use on occasion. All-in-all it was a good visit. I always feel more relaxed after going to the doctor when she tells me everything is on track and progressing normally. Next appointment - two weeks from today.

Another milestone happened last night (well, maybe). Anthony finally felt the baby move! Or so he says. I sure hope so! He may just be humoring me because he is sick of me making him try to feel. Based on the reaction, this time seemed genuine. Alien, surreal and awesome all at the same time!

Well, welcome to the blog. Thank you for joining us as we go on this new exciting, scary, amazing, funny, and incredible adventure!
